A weibo account with more than 110,000 followers posted a group photo of a family from Rudong County of Jiangsu Province on May 16. The original post said the photo was “horrible” and soon aroused heated debate across the Internet.
The photo shows a family of eight and comprised a male college student in his 20s, his parents in their 50s, his grandparents and great grandparents. Among eight family members, only one was a young.
As the post put it, the imbalance between young and old inside the family resulted from the country’s one-child policy. The post said: “It was really a horrible family photo!”
The young man in the photo responded on his Weibo account the next day that what the photo showed was not the true situation. His big family is much more than eight people, with a total of more than 50.
When he posed for the photo, his cousins, uncles and aunts were outside the frame. They were not allowed to join the photo as this photo was meant to highlight “filial children.”
